It’s been a couple months since I was able to get in here and actually make an update, but a lot has happened in that time!
First, a smaller announcement, but I have added a “Testimonials” section to my About page, in which I currently have around ten shiny new client testimonials! I appreciate that they took the time to give their feedback, and I’d been meaning to set that up for ages.
Second small bit: I will be updating my portfolio tonight to add a few more pieces to it that I’ve made the last couple months!
And with those bits out of the way, here is the MUCH bigger news.
There are two major announcements I want to make here on the site; About my pricing, and about my Tarot project, Lokabrenna Tarot.
You can check out the new prices on the Commission Pricing page of my website. If you don’t want to read a wall of text breaking down what I changed, you can just look over that page and see the new pricing setup for yourself!
Starting with the price changes;
As many of you may be aware, a few months ago I was gifted an iPad+apple pencil, then a Huion Kamvas 16, and I left Adobe programs for Clip Studio.
What you may not know is that once I started using those new tools, it revolutionized how I work and turned everything on its head.
Art projects that would have taken me 15 hours before were suddenly now only taking me 10, even commissions that I had to spend a lot more time waiting for clients and going back to do revisions/rework things, started feeling so much simpler.
I don’t have to fight against my tablet anymore; Because I am originally a traditional artist, looking at my screen instead of where I’m drawing wasn’t always the easiest thing, and the tablet itself just didn’t register my marks how I’d wanted which kept leaving me to undo line after line sometimes 20-30 times before it laid down correctly.
And with my new setup, none of that happens.
And with my new setup I’m also no longer paying a massive Adobe subscription fee every month.
And while a capitalist would argue that this is the prime time for me to increase my prices, and charge more, I see all of these changes and it makes me think “I can simplify my prices and make things more affordable for people.”
And so that’s what I did!
The new pricing went live yesterday, and it was a total overhaul of my previous pricing.
Here’s a breakdown of what all I changed!
First off, I scrapped the previous three-category system in which I offered a different price scale for Cartoon, detailed character, and Fine Art styles.
I did away with this model because honestly it was confusing for a lot of people and I had been discontent with it for a long time.
Now, all of my base prices are in a single category; “Figure” referring to the base cost of drawing a single figure/character in any style.
This new main category is further split by detail level between Line Art/Flat Color, Cell Shaded, Fully Rendered and the new Fine Art column.
Which leads me to the second change, since Fine Art is no longer a separate CATEGORY, I’ve made it be a new detail level within the base prices; One step of detail higher than the Fully Rendered category.
But, how does this affect the pricing? What are the numbers?
Well many of you will be happy to know that I averaged the prices of Cartoon and Detailed Character style, meaning that unfortunately my cartoon style is more expensive now, but that my detailed character style is now much less expensive (It was a total price deduction for all of my Detailed Character art of around 20% for every Detailed Character style except for the Full Render, Full Body, which has remained the same price.
However those core changes were just the beginning!
On top of them, I have also added the following changes:
- I have added Sketches back into my pricing for a flat $35 for any rough sketch (as a sample for your finished commission). While you can just order a sketch if you want a sketch, I really only use sketches as pre-planning for finished work, so I was hesitant to do this, but I got a LOT of people who jumped on my sketch special awhile ago, and I figured I needed to give people what they want.
- I have added a new option to both my Figure and Background pricing, entitled “Add Complexity.” For a long time, I’ve offered everything at the same price, for everyone, regardless fo WHAT details were involved, and while I would love to keep doing that, it has gotten in the way very badly at times; In some instances making the commission take over a week to complete just because I didn’t realize how invested the details they were asking for were going to be; And this last year I’ve done some of my most detailed work, which means that has been a regular recurring problem; It’s not anyone’s fault, and it was my own misjudgement that made the situation arise, but with the revamped pricing I needed to make sure to account for that eventuality going forward.
In the descriptions, I say something to the effect of these add-ons being for things like perspective drawing, machinery, wings, extra limbs and so on. I do also make a note of scales, fur and fishnet, however I want to clarify that that specifically refers to if the extra dense detailed area covers a large portion of the artwork; Adding a few scales to a character’s face or a fishnet sleeve to one of their arms isn’t going to make you have to get the Add Complexity option; Having me draw a Dragonborn on which you want me to draw scales from head to toe, or a xenomorph which has biomechanical parts covering its body, however, will. - I added definitions to the right side of my new price sheet to help clarify what some of the terminology I use means for people, to make things more clear up-front, and easier to navigate by yourselves.
- I did not change the prices of my pre-existing add-ons (Since I already changed those prices earlier this year and I’m not doing this to gouge people), but I did move them around and organize them a bit, giving them their own categories (Art Add-Ons, File Add-Ons, Rush Delivery and Commercial Add-Ons)
- I added two new Add-On options, aside from the $35 sketches;
- A new 25% discount when you order 5 or more commissions as a batch (This is mostly for things like when you need a batch of emotes, or when you order a set of illustrations like my recent work with FGG Games LLC, where I had to create 20 illustrated icons for him)
- A new package deal where you can get a text overlay added to your artwork to make it a sticker, logo or merch design, which costs $50. This add-on is included with the Commercial Licenses, but for those who want things like tshirts but do not want to use them commercially, or who like their art and want to turn it into a logo for themselves (Logo prices always have the commercial license included, so you would not need to buy an additional commercial license for turning your artwork into a logo specifically)
- I added clarity and descriptions to everything to make everything a little easier to tread and understand.
- I have changed the visual examples and moved them into the last 2 pages of pricing, and I’ve also added a section detailing what pricing options go into finished artwork, to hopefully make them easier to understand as well.
And that wraps up everything I changed about my pricing!
