Fool for You 2022 Revised Edition

After two years I’ve finally gone and taken this old design that I wasn’t happy with and made it into something I really love.

You can find this piece available as a new Ash Something Art official merch design here on my redbubble page

But aside from that, I wanted to share a bit about the journey of this piece with you.

This design is a shining example of how as an artist, you can’t create a perfect piece every time. The original design (which you can see below) was actually the third in a set of clown girl pinups I did in the same week back in 2020.

The first two were awesome. I loved them from start to finish and didn’t have any issues with the process or the result. but this one just wasn’t my best work. The anatomy was wonky; one arm longer than the other, the hands look a little too skeletal, the skin tone was what I was going for but it clashed with the rest of the piece. And I could have done better with the shading even. I loved the hair, and the hair is basically the only thing I kept mostly intact from the original design on this new version.

As you can see from the images above, there were a LOT of changes. I changed the pose, I removed the background, I changed her makeup and facial structure a bit, I gave her a new outfit.

Really the two pieces are incomparable; it’s hard to even think of the original version as a first draft, or this version as the same piece, because of how different they are. And maybe I could have titled this second version something else, but it was a concept I wanted in my portfolio that just wasn’t up to snuff with the first version.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the WIP versions, and make sure to buy yours here!
